Women in Music

This is the first in a series of book covers inspired by women written about in songs. “Jenny Was a Friend of Mind” by the Killers is an early 2000s indie rock song inspired by the murder of Jennifer Levin at the hands of Robert Chambers. I decided to focus on the Killer’s interpretation and reimagined the song as a thriller with an unreliable narrator describing his involvement with his friend Jenny to the police after her murder. The cover is illustrated with many different murder weapons. The shears for a crime of passion and deadly plants and flowers for a more premeditated approach. In my reimagining the narrator works in a gardening shop.

The goal of this project was to create a series of book covers taking inspiration from women written about in songs. This project reimagines the women in these songs as if they're characters being written about in a book and how the lyrics of the song might be interpreted in terms of genre. This project is on-going and a work in progress.
